Teaching Philosophy

I'd like to be a positive figure in the lives of children and make a difference in their grade school experience. I will aim to help them develop their artistic skills, discover their own creativity, and gain confidence in themselves to pursue artistic endeavors beyond my class. Patience and kindness are two virtues that will be valuable traits to have going teaching.  I also think that the ability to be stern is important and necessary. The combination of these characteristics will surely help me succeed in running a classroom.

I want to utilize certain secondary grade level pedagogies and projects to give my students the best possible experience and foster the most growth and admiration of art as a whole. I hope to format my classroom as a mix of Project Based, Teaching for Artistic Behavior/ choice based, and STEAM.  I think providing good structure to the art classroom is important to learn, practice and master technical skills and objectives.  Tying in subjects/ lessons that the students are simultaneously learning in other courses into our lessons is a great way to reinforce learning and a great way to collaborate with and implement other departments into ours. I want to allow students to have a degree of freedom in projects in order to foster creativity and develop their individuality as artists.
